First night: adventure in three… two… one…

It’s been said that if everything goes right, you don’t have adventure. Well, we did have something go wrong, so officially this can be called an adventure.

The duffle bag that was holding some gear flopped down a bit on the left side. Right in front of the exhaust. Well, you can imagine what’s going to happen.

So, here’s the list of casualties:

  • Duffle bag is mortally wounded, but still around
  • AIDS walk sweatshirt sacrificed itself for the better good
  • A pair of jeans got very dry, though still wearable
  • The bottle of plastic cleaner in the pannier melted and got things on the inside wet
  • The left rear turn signal is all melty. It blinks for now. We’ll monitor it and see if we can get a replacement. As long as it blinks it’s not urgent.

In other news, the SPOT tracking is working great!

As for the hotel? Days Inn. I suppose when it comes down to it, clean and safe are really the primary requirements for any night. Room was clean (right down to the paper seal on the toilet PROVING that it had not been sullied after the cleaning crew went through) and we were safe. Plenty of locks on the door, and a patented locking system to the sliding glass door, rather similar to the one that came with ours at home (those who have been to our house will now chuckle). Hey, been in worse. All joking aside, it was just fine. It was no Hilton, but thankfully it wasn’t a La Quinta either.

We’ll have pictures of the carnage up soon.
