Glacier National park… and going to Canada

In any case, on Monday we went to Yellowstone. It’s a marvelous park. The one problem is that everyone with an RV (or a rented RV) thinks that they own the road. How annoying. There’s almost nothing worse than following someone that is driving randomly. I didn’t have as much time to check out the park as I did checking out the stupid drivers. Advice to anyone going: go in the shoulder season. Hopefully you’ll not have as many RVs.

We did, however, get to see Buffalo on the way out.

And like any tourist, we had to see Old Faithful. We were in for a treat though — one of the adjacent geysers, Beehive, was about to erupt too. Beehive is a much more unpredictable, but bigger geyser in the same area.

Seems that now it erupts every 90-some minutes instead of 82 minutes. Not as faithful no more.

Leaving Yellowstone went out the Northeast entrance and went up Beartooth highway. One word: Wow! This must be what the Alps are like. It was a twisty mountain road with amazing views. Switchbacks going up the mountain. Going up in elevation until we got up to 10979 feet (according to the Zumo).

We got to the town of Red Lodge and ate some dinner at a place called Bogarts Restaurant, a combo Pizza / Mexican place. Yummy.

Then we got lost.

Oh, I hear you saying, you have GPS on the bike.

Yeah.

We do.

It got us lost.

It took us down Old Coulee Road which went from a normal road. To a dirt road. To a gravel road. To a windy gravel road.

Yeah.

And there weren’t any people around either. Just range. Open range.

We made it out in one piece and finally got a room in a little motel. We really didn’t want to set up the tent and stuff at 9 at night. It was a long day.

Yesterday (Tuesday) we rode out to Glacier (more in another post) and we’re just about 20 miles south of the Canada border. We hope to make up up to Jasper today.
