Couch-surfing

I may have had a revelation. I recently joined couchsurfing.com (much to Ennie's utter dismay) on a whim. If nothing else it'll give me some impetus to keep the house clean.

macys_couch_450 The point of “couch surfing” is to, essentially, crash out on some random person's couch for a night's sleep. All that's well and good, but it's more than that. It's getting to know people that you otherwise wouldn't ever connect with. Perhaps getting to see bits of their community that you would never think to look for. I know I wouldn't mind hosting a traveler for a day or two and hearing of where they were and maybe seeing some pictures.

In any case…

I was looking to figure out how much it'll be to ship the tires out to Canada. FedEx is the cheapest at $121. OMFG. And that's to Whitehorse. Watson Lake is north of $200. And they don't even have addresses there.

So, this got me thinking. What if I could ship a set of tires that some couch surfer could just hold onto for a week or so? There's no one at Watson Lake. (Couch surfers or otherwise) There's lots of folks in Whitehorse — the capitol city of the Yukon Territories. I'm sure someone can hold onto a set. Not having to deal with crap like general delivery and what happens to a package that just sits at the post office or something. That's not something I would look forward to. The last thing I want to happen is to show up and not have my tires there. If I'm sending this to someone's house, they can just throw it in their garage or something. Hell, leave it out back for all I care.

It might be a little out of my way to get there if I want to take the Robert Campbell Highway, but this might be a good sacrifice to make. I might just do it myself without En. Or not at all. Such is life I suppose.
